Education – Community Schools

The Foundation’s grantmaking is focused on creating a paradigm shift where schools are a place of and for the community.

We believe in the promise of community schools to improve academic achievement and mitigate structural inequality.

Community schools are hubs for students and communities. Often open evenings and over weekends and summers, they bring together families, students, teachers, and local organizations to identify and provide health, social, and out-of-school-time support.

“The community school … returns the public school to its rightful place as a vital center of community life — where the community’s many assets are mobilized in support of students, families, and neighborhoods.”
